Reading is Good

Too many kids today don’t like to read. Which, for me personally, I don’t understand. I love reading, it’s a way to disconnect with what’s going on around you, yet still be thinking. For as long as I’ve been able to read I’ve loved reading. I think that more kids would like to read if they grew up with having a story read to them. If a parent, each night as the child was going to bed, went with them and sat for few minutes and just read a book to them, they’d learn to love books, especially if the parents encouraged their children to read.
Reading books isn’t a boring thing. As long as you pick the right book, it can be fun. It also stimulates your mind. Watching movies and TV, although fun, and trust me I do like both, but they don’t stimulate the mind. When you watch movies and shows, your mind is just sort of veging out, not thinking. With books, you can see the images in your head, through your own imagination, you learn words and reading can actually, help your writing, you see how someone else writes and you see that it’s good and you try to mimic it. Reading doesn’t always have to be about schoolwork, it can be about fun.

I agree w/ you. most people only see reading as some chore that must be done in order to pass english class. I on the other hand love reading. I especially love reading a book then sharing it w/ friends so that we could discuiss and debate later.

I think this is because kid s are so atatched to watching the television and even if they aren't their experience is reading books that they don't like in school. We need to teach kids when they are young tat reading can be fun.

I do agree with the whole "engaging the mind using imagination through reading" idea, but there must be some movies that also engage the mind. There are some (less popular, usually) thoughtful, smart movies that can get you thinking. But yeah...TV does induce the vegg out syndrome.
