A few days ago I got my first tattoo. I'm basically in love with it. It's a purple star on my right wrist. The guy that did it actually said he was proud of me because the wrist is a pretty painful place for a first tattoo, but it didn't really hurt. Purple, aside from my favorite color, signifies loyalty, and the star represents my dreams. Staying loyal to my dreams, it's something I've found to be quite hard.
My parents were against it years ago when I informed them that I would be getting one after I turned 18. But, they want me to make my decisions for myself. My oldest sister loves it, although she has two tattoos herself. My grandparents on the other hand, they hate it and they haven't even seen it yet. They told me that if I get another one or get my lip pierced, both of which I was planning on doing in a few weeks, they won't take me to orientation for college. So I'm just going to wait on the lip and get the tattoo on my back, where they won't see it.
This may sound odd, but to me, this is progress. It's the first big decision I've made as an adult, and the first time I've had to deal with adversity from something I can't change. My grandparents think I'm just trying to prove a point, that I can do what I want. But, to me this tattoo represents overcoming the struggles in my life and it's something I've thought through a lot. It's making me realize that I am an adult now, I can make decisions and those decisions have impacts on other people's lives. I actually have to be somewhat responsible now. But this also means that I can make more of a difference, my voice can be heard. I love it.
I definitely plan on getting more tattoos, each to represent a different struggle in my life. I would not recommend getting one for no reason, but to me this is self-expression and finding myself is the best progress I can imagine.
Inking for Progress?

It's good that you're getting some experience with standing up for your own ideas, even when others-especially your family- disagree.
I love abortion. Read more here:

I hope it comes in handy because it's definitely not easy. I've always been a people pleaser, especially to my family, and I cry when I know they are mad at me. So, something like this has been extremely hard on me, but I'm just at a point that I honestly don't care what they think.
It will. There may be times when your company or boss asks you to do something that you aren't comfortable with, and it's good to have at least some experience in dealing with disappointing others.

I could never get a permanent tattoo. I change my mind too often! This is an interesting concept you share here, that tattoos can be your own personal progress.

Mind Control is Easier Than You Think
Haha I do too which is why I would never be someone to get like a name or some symbol representative of a fad, it has to be something special to me.
As for the concept, thank you. I think getting my tattoo and dealing with the reactions is the first time I've actually noticed something I did making a tangible difference in my world.
I also have a tattoo. Mine is in a more personal place, because I felt very strongly I wanted to get a tattoo for myself and not to show off to others, not to mention that my parents would not be too excited about knowing I "got inked."
My tattoo is a dove of peace (carrying an olive branch) located somewhere near my nether regions (just barely covered by a bathing suit). It represents the peace I have found with myself after a particular incident I would rather not discuss here. I got it right after my 21st birthday.
And I think that's good. It's something special to you that has a deeper meaning than the ink that people will see. As for the area, it's good that you didn't want your parents to get mad about it, but mine wouldn't have been thrilled with the idea anyways, so whatever I guess. I also think the peace dove is a great tattoo idea, it's known, but not over used as a tattoo so it's still special.
Pick you tats wisely and it is best to get them for yourself. I think girls should get them in places you can't see too often. The star is fine of course on your wrist just as long as you don't go overboard and get them all up and down your body. That is gross on a guy or girl in my opinion. They are addictive so be careful. I believe you read my blog on think before you ink right? If you didn't it would be a good idea. lol.
I am getting my 3rd one tomorrow. The dice which we talked about actually symbolizes taking a chance. The little stars by it will be dreams like you stated about your tat. I have a butterfly on my hip. I got that when I was 17 and to me it represents peace and freedom. Freedom to go towards your destiny.
Good blog. They are rather addictive. My first one didn't hurt at all. then came the second one right on my bone on my back. Trust me this hurts like hell.

Love comments? I do too!
yes of course I read it. and I take that advice wisely.
Like I told you, I'm jealous.
And as you already know the back is where my next one is going, I'm getting a cross on my shoulder blade.
I think it's becoming more common to have people that really have meaning to their tattoos whereas, when my sisters were in high school people used to get random crap just to say they had one.
