Well, I recently wrote an opinion piece for my school's paper stating people's opinions on the global warming debate. I wrote about how the general consensus is that global warming is caused mainly due to CO2 emissions from human technology, but that there are others that believe that global warming is occuring naturally to a certain extent, and that some people don't believe in global warming at all. With our next issue coming out, the chief editor of our paper is using the newspaper's voice page (a column that shows the views of the entire staff) to say that my article was incorrect and that global warming occurs only due to CO2 emissions. That doesn't seem right. My article was an opinion piece first of all, and secondly, the angle that I took was not favoring one side of the debate, but highlighting the different viewpoints that people have regarding this topic. I think that it is overstepping his boundary to use the newspaper's opinion section for his personal views and to say that an opinion piece written to inform students and staff is wrong. Anyone agree with me on this one?

Are you talking about another student doing this or a teacher? If it's a teacher, he should leave it alone. It's a student paper and it was an opinion piece. Furthermore, global warming isn't caused solely from human activity... so to call out your piece as being inaccurate and stating that it's human only is going to make him look a little ridiculous. If it's another student, I suppose they have the right to dispute... but you might tell him to do a little research before making the entire staff look bad because he couldn't leave it alone and didn't do his homework.

"No persons are more frequently wrong, than those who will not admit they are wrong." Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Yeah, you're editor is absolutely wrong. Most people don't know it, but water vapor is the leading greenhouse gas. Even still, there's very minimal scientific evidence that demonstrates that global warming is anything but a theory and mounting evidence pointing to the contrary.

I wish that more people would understood that, but the scientists that get all the media coverage are the ones that are saying that humans are the main cause of global warming. It's sad, but the meteorologists and climatologists that do not agree that humans are the main cause of it, get called out for their viewpoint. My editor is a student, and when I heard that he was writing the article, I gave him the main website that I used to back my article. He's pretty closed minded, so he probably won't check out the website or listen to me though.
Global warming "promoters" seem to be acting more and more like they are part of a religious cult. They are quick to silence any other opinions and ignore any facts that don't support their cause.
Here at the University of Washington there was a state climatologist who publicly corrected false information on our mountain snowpack that the mayor of Seattle had used in a speech. Guess what, the climatologist was fired! Yes, fired for telling the truth to the media.
The whole thing scares me, too many people getting gung-ho over something they no nothing about all due to an alarmist movie based on manipulated evidence.
You should mount some kind of formal protest or insist that you get a rebuttal to the Editor's published views.
There was a meteorologist at the Weather Channel a while back who acted out against the meteorologists who don't believe that humans are the main cause of global warming. The meteorologist basically wrote in a blog that any meteorologist who did not believe that global warming is due solely to human emissions, should get their AMS seal of approval revoked. The AMS seal pretty much tells that the meteorologist is in accordance with the American Meteorological Society and that they have done well in forecasting the weather if I remember correctly. I think that's a bit radical as is the fact that the climatologist got fired because they told the truth that no one wants to hear.
Global Warming I have to say is a propaganda. You see all these TV programs that scare you about glaciers melting and land masses disappearing. I want someone to explain to me why was it that in the 70s that the media was also scaring viewers that we were soon going to have another Ice Age...wow the planet sure seems pretty warm now.. Most of these commercials in the TV about energy saving appliances are mostly owned by G.E. hey why not scare people with global warming so they can buy our expensive appliances.. Its all business. People need to open their eyes and stop this over flow of money going towards global warming and place it somewhere where people in need of Medical facilities and people who are acctually dying of starvation and NOT GLOBAL WARMING!
