Looking back over my shoulder, I see an endless line of great men and women. Among them are the well-known and the obscure. Thomas Jefferson stands next to a nameless seventeen-year-old boy who died fighting for our independence. Upon every face is a common expression that ties them together; all have labored and sacrificed for the freedom and equality that America enjoys. Every face bears a beautiful and selfless love for their country.
This line of great patriots represents our American heritage. The freedom and equality that they made possible is the foundation of our country. It is vital that we fulfill our responsibility to preserve our heritage if we are to enjoy its benefits.
