The Media and the 2008 Presidential Election

The media has an incredibly important job -- to relate the important news to the public. They are supposed to do it objectively, but that should also be taken with a grain of salt, and they are supposed to question. The 2008 election has been one major story after another and yet, many of these stories lack any real significance in the greater scheme of things. I'm wondering though, with the media's great power shouldn't they be careful about what they print?
A friend of mine said she wasn't going to vote for Obama anymore because of something she had heard about his minister and a concrete connection with the Reverend Farakan who is a total radical. Now, it's possible I missed this major piece of breaking news about Obama somehow being in kahootz with Farakan but I doubt it. So I went online and found some recent articles about Obama and his minister Wright. Only one of them had a mention of Farakan but it seems that that is where the investigation ended.
The media can't throw a name out like his and expect for people to not have a reaction -- It's probably what they are banking on. But there are no questions here. How close is Farakan to Wright, how close is Wright to Obama. In what way are Farakan and Wright connection? Are they on a list together of questionable people or are they best friends from middle school? These are the questions we need answered. It's fine for the media to say there is a connection between these three figures but to leave it at that is misleading in more ways that one. I find it upsetting that reporters have left out these vital bits of information. If there is a relationship between a radical supremacist and Obama I would like to know about it, but I would like to know ALL about it. Any Thoughts?

So many things are just being thrown around on the news, but none of the pieces come together. It is frustrating to have to watch multiple new channels, and research what they are talking about. I wish I could just trust what I hear, but I know that won't change. For example, that picture that the Clinton campaign revealed where Obama was wearing traditional clothing of an African country. People were freaked out because he wore a turban... in truth he was experiencing a culture. Come on America!

I know! It was ridiculous. Sometimes it seems like people are digging for irrelevant things and then trying to create absurd conclusions. It must have been a slow news day.

I don't trust American news channels (which is pretty sad, actually). I always end up getting my news from the internet, and then proceeding to look up the details and different points of view.

The main problem is that the stories that run are the ones that they hope will get high ratings, not the ones that are true and well researched. Unfortunately, a rumor will make the reporter/network more well known (and more money) than a thoroughly researched and objective piece. And, after all, media IS a form of entertainment. (Unfortunately)
