What does mariage mean these days? Some people say that gay marriage should be banned to preserve the sanctity of marriage, but let's face it, the sanctity of marriage is almost eliminated. Vows don't mean much anymore, obviously because the divorce rate is over 50%. You talk to people going into their 3rd or 4th marriage, hoping this will be the happy one, but now, the odds are scary. I was a witness to the blessed occasion of my cousin's wedding. Believe me people, this is a match made in heaven. Both are quirky enough to make the other look somewhat normal, but it got me thinking about marriage. Why do people even bother these days? It's not really shunned on anymore to have children out of wedlock, and hardly anyone waits until their wedding night to "give away their flower." Is marriage just something that lets us file our taxes differently? There is love, but you don't have to be married to be in love. I just think how stupid it is to go through the formalitly of being legally married to someone who is supposedly your "soulmate."
I guess the reason why I am so skeptical about marriage and soulmates and things like that is because i know the chance of me actually finding someone who wants to spend the rest of their life with me is slim to none. Every girl can think back to playing wedding, with a long veil and the perfect prince charming, and that is what we want...not only the fairytale wedding, but the fairytale marriage. We want the man who couldn't see himself with anyone but us, who never leaves the toilet seat up, and who thinks we are aphrodite.
opinions?

It's the divorce rate that is killing the sanctity of marriage, definitely not homosexuals.
is most definitely still looked down upon.
