Hate crimes? How does it come to???

Tagged:  •

Things that happened in the pastthat has been brought to my attention, things from the past that happened that I was never really exposed to in history classes- hate crimes. There is not alot of awareness of how someone would hurt others because of stereotype, prejudice, and discrimation. Vincent Chin was one of the victims of hate crimes because two men were angry at being laid off and Japanese workers took their place and when they saw Vincent and the color of his skin and thought him to be Japanese they hit him and killed him with a baseball bat. When Vincent Chin died, he was found to be Chinese not Japanese and that caused an uproar of support for Vincent Chin.

Even though that happened in the 1980s, prejudice, discrimation, and stereotyping still exists so do hate crimes, but we do not hear of them often. Hate crimes start from PREJUDICE- judging others based on the idea of a cultural group or gender or other things rather than indiviuals, perceiving that they are in a certain way that they may not be before getting to know them. Then STEREOTYPING begins from where we hear things from our circle of friends or people we surround ourselves with, that may not apply to all  i.e. comments like "All chinese drivers are bad drivers", we should look at indiviuals regardless of race, gender, and other things.DISCRIMATION is an action done to provoke or so and can eventually lead to hate crimes. There are more ways to educate people and to push for awareness of this issue- Asian Pacific Legal Center in Los Angeles, Mecha, and other related groups help out. check out apalc.org for more info on hate crimes and other links that also deals with hate crimes or other centers that focus on bettering and serving an certain race besides Asian Pacific American, say African American, Hispanics, Mexican Americans, and others' community.

As long as we check this out out of interest, we can all share the responsibilty that hate crimes are at a minimum or possibly make it decrease over the years- it all starts interest in helping out. So if u r interested go on apalc.org for more info or find ways to serve the community and promote where discrimination, prejudice, and stereotyping are disscussed and informed so others are educated in what leads to hate crimes -that way we could try to prevent other hate crimes of any kind to happen if people are more informed about these situations like these. So lend a hand if u can, and go on to apalc.org for info.

Hate crime are happening all over the world. They happen because of the lack of education, in the first place. People still consider themselves superior from others, and think they can do whatever they want. Maybe it is up to next generation to help completelly abolish hate criome, and all its causes

check out www.edunbar.bol.UCLA.edu/ it's a great site for news and study on hate crimes.

hey i have been to the APALC Redifining the Color of Hate meeting and i read the Vincin Chin's story and it shocked me that these people can't have the courage to even ask him what type of asian he was it shows how people are so uneducated about cultures ethnics. And i do agree our generation needs to be more assertive and stop any discrimination from the 1st word that comes out of anyones mouth because it only starts with your friends that you should educate about to them even if they don't listen it'll be in their thoughts and where ever they go
