FBI tracked MLK?

Martin Luther King was wiretapped by the FBI for many years during the civil rights movement in which he participated. Sexual encounters were recorded, and really are about all the FBI got out of these wire taps. They used these against MLK and tried to bring him down with it. They did this, "Hoping to prove the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was under the influence of Communists, the FBI kept the civil rights leader under constant surveillance.". Now they found nothing of the sort of course.

MLK recieved numerous threatening letters from the FBI, and many awful things were said about him by the FBI and other government officials. JFK is one of the people who gave the FBI permission to break into his room and plant surveillance devices.

Now all this seems just wrong right? Well at the end of the article it states, "When you have a wiretap on someone you pick up all sorts of dreck. But in terms of the political history that ironically the FBI has created for us, it's a wonderful resource,"

This is not okay! A great resource? Is this how invading peoples privacy is going to be looked at? I sure hope not. We all know about the Patriot Act, and is that really okay? Yes, we found out things we never knew but how does this better our country? It doesn't. So we know about MLK's private life, what now? Nothing. Actions taken by our government have not really seemed to have progressed since the days of MLK to now, with all the wire tapping going on. Is it our job as Americans to stop this? Or are we just supposed to sit back and allow the government to rule our lives?

You may not have a problem with this, but think about it. It luckily did not stop MLK but what if a similar situation happens to a person that may really be on the verge of making a difference, but the government inteferes by invading their private life? I guess America will have to find out the hard way.

I believe this was very wrong to invade a person's privacy. I am into consipracies and I believe the government does alot of things behind our back they we are unaware of. Not alot of people belief me on this but I believe it is true. Bill Clinton apologized about the Tuskgee experiment where 400 black men were told they were being treated for a syphilis, but they really weren't. They were made to suffer through to for scientific evidence of how the disease progressed. This was sick.
I believe wire tapping is an invasion of privacy. I am shocked to hear about this and I am glad you wrote about it. This was a very good blog.

I ment to read it last night but I got to tired. I commented though :) and gave you a rating! Don't worry some of my better blogs don't get read or get ratings either About to Cry

Love comments? I do too!

Wow, that is awful! I hope they got some sort of compensation for that faulty experiment. And thank you very much! I saw an article about it on CNN and found it interesting, apparently not everybody did, but that's okay. Thank you for the comment and rating. :]

There's not much of a reason that a site like this wouldn't be on a 'list' either. It's really a much simpler matter to do all of this surveillance presently than the days of MLK. Wiretapping is already in place on cellular carriers, and with most telephone connections routed through IP networks, wiretapping phones (both POTS and VoIP) is trivial. E-mail is easy enough to solicit from ISPs and other mail hosts. Not to mention ISPs collaborating with little pressure to governmental request for browsing history.

Uneasy about that?

Yea actually... It is sad. I hope they don't find out my secrets then... oh dear.

They know your secrets before you do :-P

When the Fusion centers are in full swing you won't have to worry about secrets at all. No such thing anymore ;-)

KrisanMD's picture

Haha. This may be true, but I'll opt to be optimistic. :]
When there are no such things as secrets, I will be the happiest person alive.

That was optimism... the non-optimistic version is that, at birth, all humans will be thrown in virtual prison for the inevitable thought crimes which will undoubtedly occur during their lifetimes. These virtual prisons will take the form of advanced, symbiotic computers which are directly linked to the central nervous system and keep the body and mind alive through tricking it into believing it's living a life of natural origin.

Secrets might be a good thing... with one possible exception: find someone to love and trust completely. I'll leave your optimism to believe that even that faint bit of light at the end of the tunnel isn't the train which others might be inclined to believe...

;-)

Oh thought crime. 1984? Great book.

I would love to not have secrets, maybe then I wouldn't feel so weighed down. I am not a huge fan of secrets, because girls are so catty. I found somebody I loved and trusted completely, but unfortunately that was one way, so things didn't work in my optimistic favor. Hey, that is life though.

I have secrets also. I hate it but I feel as though the second I start to trust a girl they screw me over. But don't worry I am a good friend. I won't do anything like that to you. (I'm not trying to make that sound concieted) I don't like secrets either. Or gossip. If you are going to say something say it to my face. Where is that getting anyone? no where.

You are pretty, nice and seem to have a good personality from what I know of on here. Someone will appreciate you and love you one day. Don't get your hopes up! It took me forever to find my boyfriend. And it will take me even longer to find some great friends I believe.

Too kind you are Dani. :]
I know I will find that somebody, hell I'm only 18 I think I have some time on my hands.

And yea, I never tell my friends (girls) my secrets. I am really good at keeping them for other people, but since I don't tell them, they don't tell me. But I am fine with that. I tell my best friend everything but that is it.

By reading, giving a great rating and making one little comment I attracted attention to your wonderful blog. lol. I'm kidding.

18 wow youngster. lol kidding again. ( never thought I could say that) I'm 20 not much older, will be 21 this year.

I don't have a best friend. Maybe my dog Comet. People want to tell me their secrets...for some strange reason. If someone tells me something and says don't tell anyone...I won't tell anyone. People deserve that much respect!

But at least you have one person you can tell everything to. That is always good.

KrisanMD's picture

Haha! No really, it has way more reads now! :]
And Comet, reminds me of Full House, best show ever. I used to tell my dog everything, thought it was a safe bet. But we put her to sleep a few weeks ago :[
The saying, "I'll take it to the grave" was literal with my Lucy, haha.

I am just a comment junkie...haha. I'm sorry about your dog. About to Cry This is true when you get attached to animals. I believe there is an attachment like they are people.we had to put my lab moses and lab/begal mix coty down because coty was almost 17 and was going blind and moses was losing bones in his spine and he was 15. I still feel bad because I didn't want to get up to say good bye. Coty was looking at my mom from the back of the animal truck like why are you doing this.

The sadest thing I ever say was my friend's puppy. I heard a yelp and we went out front and her puppy was laying the road. This guy in a truck ran over her... We took her to the hospital and in the car she was having seizures. I watched her get put to sleep. It was soo sad because she was just a little puppy. This really has shook me up.

Is it just me, or did the French major miss the perfect chance to throw in a "c'est la vie"? :-)

KrisanMD's picture

No, I just thought I would see if somebody else would say it, I mean I know it but I was seeing if a non-French major would think of it. :]
