Another article from the Tribune.
Illinois is looking to become the fifth state to put in a law that would allow gay couples to have a civil union. This means that the couple would get all the same legal rights as a married couple including estate benefits, child custody or adoption, and property ownership.
Illinois also just passed a law that said no discrimination based on sexual orientation and this I believe would help to ensure that they weren't discriminated in this aspect.
A Quote:
"I find it hard to stand up here and have people tell me how giving my partner the same benefits that you would your wife or your husband is somehow detracting from your marriage," Korty said.
I completely agree with this bill and I really hope it passes. I am so excited for Illinois to take this leap and be one of the first states to do it.
I guess my biggest problem with this issue is that we are discriminating against human beings. It's like saying slaves are 3/4 of a person or Mexicans are evil cause they steal our jobs.
This country has always had a history of discriminating from race to religion to sexual orientation. If this law passes we will be one step closer to the free country that we claim to be.

It is really good that the United States is finally moving to what is supposed to be "freedomland."
I have very mixed up issues concerning homosexual couples, I was raised in a country that is 99.99999% catholic (Mexico), so it is hard to leave those notions behind. However, I am not against gay civil unions nor gay marriage. They, and all people, should be allowed to be what they want to be and do what they want to do as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.
And, by the way, Mexico has also passed a civil union law for gay couples. So, yay for liberty of self!
