"Give us thus Free"

When one hears the phrase " Let Freedom Ring", one probably often thinks of the great Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.; however when I hear that phrase I think of children playing in parks, neighbors gathering around celebrating who knows what. I dream of music, not just any music good music that express the pain and strength endured by our people (American people). I vision going to dances, that get you so moved you can't even stay in your seat because they are that powerful and moving. I dream of people gathered around a table. coming together eating African casavaleaf, Hispanic prepared quesidillas, Caribbean curry chicken, Eritrean ingera, Japanese sushi, all different types of ethnic foods that make one who they are.
This is the freedom I dream of.
Never can I ever once recall dreaming of my peers making up a large percentage of the jail popularity. Innocent troops being sent to kill innocent people overseas for reasons unknown. I never dreamed about being characterized for my outer appearance because it didn't match a certain criteria the nation looks upon as acceptable. Never once have I dreamed about being worried about saying the wrong thing over the phone because the government is listening to my conversation. I've never ever dreamed about being miseducated in a land thats held to be supreme due to it's education opportunities . I never dreamed of being taught distorted facts pertaining to my history. Never have I dreamed of religion being another means of separation, rather then a means of unity. When I convince my parents that this madness will one day come to an end they tell me "keep on dreamin' sistah" It's quite sad how everything I've never dreamed of, is what I consider modern day reality.

"There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time."
