Are we being neglected?

Tagged:  •

It seems as if our community doesnt allow us as students to truely succed in anything that we push ourselves to do. Yes, they may teach us stuff but they dont give us an education with tools that schools that other schools have and we as the future deserve to have. Satistics show that of the entire world the United States spends only 5.7% of their money on education! That is 38th in the world, and thinking that the United States is seen as a strong powerful country isnt shown in these statistics. This only shows that the US doesn't want to push their future to become better then the present people running our country. The governments decision to allow the community to choose weather or not a school can get things that they ned to excell is just setting up our future for failure. A community shouldnt have the right to choose the amount of money a school earns, expecially if they dont care weather or not the school gets any money at all. If a simple bill cant get passed to allow schools to succed how can students think that they are getting the education that they deserve. As a student i know that not getting the opportunity to excell at studies because of the low budget costs or low book count is frustrating. Many times it has occured that my district has ran out of money and we had to use RECYCLED PAPER! It becomes sad when a school has to use things like recycled paper because their budget doesnt allow them to buy something as simple as paper. The government shouldnt allow the community to neglect the schools in communities and actually help the future of the country.

You might want to update your post and flesh it out with some more examples of underfunded schools and some statistics.

School could accomplish so much with bigger budgets. Books, computer, better teacher and guidance counselor salaries, lab equipment, instruments, art supplies, SAT and ACT prep, etc. would make such a difference.

First of all, they should have been recycling all along.

Secondly, why is it the government's job to run schools. If the parents took time to check a child's education and not let substandard supplies and replies fly, then things might change.

Also, a side note, the poorer the community the poorer education. I kind of beleive it is the government conspiracy to keep the people uninformed and dumb so that they can do as they please. To keep people in the lower classes low to hord themselves the money.

Poor education breads consistency and compliance.
Good point.

oh I know that I didn't get to excel like I should have, in two ways...first in english class...this was class every day: come in, get a laptop, put in whatever random movie the teacher felt like watching, lay on the floor (the lights were always off) and go to sleep...
and in debate: we have to miss out on a lot of really great tournaments b/c we get zero funding from the school and most of the kids in the program aren't financially well-off so to speak...but heaven forbid the music dept and sports teams not get their hundreds of dollars.

School music programs, I think are really important, school sports teams, not so much. Schools should be about academics, not sports. Sports programs tend take huge amounts of money from school budgets that could be used to support tons of other clubs. That goes for high schools and colleges.

I think music is important, don't get me wrong ( I used to be in choir and orchestra), but I think it's really unfair that one of the most successful programs in the school, and one of the most career oriented gets not a penny.
