The music industry is a multi-billion dollar industry but yet the acts of pirating music is severely effecting the industry causing the good and the bad bands to go under. Not only is it a crime to steal but because of the acts of music piracy we are loosing some very good bands. Here is some food for thought for every cd uploaded and illeagally pirated from the internet that band has to sell Thirty-five (35) cds of that cd to offset the piracy (theft) of each download of that particular cd.
Now if we are supposed to have entertaining music how can we as a nation allow these acts to go unchecked. But here is the question How do we stop piracy without infringing on our constitutional rights??

Are you serious??? The rich bands and celebrities in America make me sick. Bands used to play to make it mean something and to get messages across to listeners. Now all these bands and artists just want the extra dollar and make rediculous video's and albums that appeal to a lot of people. Pirating music is not affecting the pockets of the rich and famous. There is no reason a pro football player or a musician should make more money than a fire fighter or an ambulatory unit. What kind of country is this that doesnt care that fire fighters and the true brave jobs in America make crap wages while a bunch of pretty boys with guitars make millions.

I agree. They don't sing about their ideas, etc. They sing what their label tells them to sing cuz they want to be popular but they end up going down fast.

Musicians are entertainers. Albums should be the same as T-shirts: a commodity. Bands should make their money from touring (that is, playing their music) and from endorsements (that is, selling their music to private enterprise). I hate it when people talk about a band 'selling out' because they're making money.

I just think if people stopped selling out, we would have better music. I don't have a problem with them making money. they wouyld make MORE money, though, if they were original and sang about hings they actually care about. these days, music is all about breaking up and hooking up . Nothing original. People want something fresh.

Lies, lies, lies. Remember the renaissance? That was all based on patrons paying composers to write. The renaissance came up with some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard (check out Palestrina).
But talking modern, Jane's Addiction and U2 sell out at every chance they get. Their music is (if you can't think it's amazing) definitely original. There are plenty look alikes, but they were and are certainly original.

I agree with the above. And frankly if I love the CD I do buy it, but I like to see if it's worth the money. Bands should be into getting their music heard not the cash.

Band should absolutely be concerned about the money, but they hardly make anything from CDs, most of it goes to the record company.

These days, Music isn't worth the 20 bucks. Out of 12 songs only one or two are worth listening to.

So many industries have gone out of business due to technology that it should be expected. It is only a matter of time until CDs and even DVDs are things of nostalgia. No one is sure how the music business will be organized after this happens. It is ridiculous to assume that the realities that are changing that industry are 'evil.'
Digital distribution has made the cost of each copy of a song effectively zero. Music executives are propagandizing the assertion that the cost reduction should not affect their ability to charge their traditional rates. How would you feel if an oil company tried this?
They have even lobbied (bribed) your representatives to extend their copyright terms to decades beyond the life expectancy of the artists that created the music. These are the 'good guys' and teenage music fans are thieving pirates for wanting to listen to music.
Right and wrong is sometimes a bit hard to reach a consensus on. So don't be surprised if some people do not share your judgment on this one.
I love math. How did you arrive at that 35 CD sales to offset 1 download? As a wild guess I think a representative of the music labels provided it to you. Am I right?

Just define the users of new technology as evil
Pirate, pirated. vs. Share, file sharing.
---
Exagerate the problem.
How many times have you heard of the 'billions of lost revenue' the numbers provided assume that each download prevents a sale.
---
Pretend it is 'the artists' that you are concerned about. When the artists have no reason not to create they just don't have as much reason to pay the vast majority of income to a distribution channel.
---
The music labels may be eliminated alltogether. If you are not providing ANY service Why should you get paid?

Yeah, but people have to buys songs to post them online initially, so they still make their money right? It would be impossible for EVERYONE in the whole world to stop buying cds.

Disks have a few years left.
I don't think you should distribute anything that does not belong to you, but the people lying about it have nothing positive to add to the value chain.

I have a question. I have asked this on yahoo and google but no one knows the answer. If I watch movies on cinecast or any other website is that illegal? If I don't download or "share" or upload is it illegal and what are the penalties? Does anyone have any links about the legality of this issue?

You guys, I don't know but now I am really scared. tv-links.com.uk was shut down and the owner was imprisoned by the UK JUST FOR LINKING TO ILLEGAL WEBSITES! People can track down your esp address. This is serious, and if it doesn't affect us know it could in the future. Aren't you guys worried? No one even knows if its legal or not to watch. Some say no some say yes, and he gov won't specify what it really is. Is it a trap?
