Illegal Immigrants in America

How do you feel about allowing Immigrants into America? These are some of my thoughts and feelings about Legal and Illegal Immigrants. Please feel free to respond!

People for hundreds of years have been migrating to this wonderful country of ours, I for one am not for stopping our acceptance of people that are struggling to live, to survive, under oppressive governments that restrict a person from believing in themselves or restraining religious beliefs. For these few hundred years that America and its citizens have been in support of our acceptance of people looking for a new life in which dreams can come true, those that were accepted and taken in went through the process of becoming Legal Citizens. Unfortunately we have reached a point that people who do not wish to go through the proper procedures, are wanting to receive the same rights that my earlier, and many of your, forefathers, who legally became American citizens, rightfully gained for their later generations to enjoy.

There is a key word that is sometimes mentioned when referring to those who are not properly obtaining citizenship, sometimes it is mentioned and sometimes it is conveniently hidden. This word is "Illegal", when tied on to the word Immigrant, to make the title "Illegal Immigrant", this specific word makes the process against the law.

Although no one in our gets treated equally, this is not just something that occurs in America, but America is not the only country at fault. Americans cannot become Mexican citizens at any point, not even in a legal manner, but we are expected to accept everyone, felon or not. This is not the only record in which we Americans have been discriminated in and it is not just the Mexican government that has been oppressive to our people, but America and its people are discriminated worldwide, for both doing too little and in some cases, doing too much. When you help everyone it is easy for those that are watching the events that they are not handling to point fingers and for them to tell what you are doing wrong.

As people who have everything, or at least access to it, there are others all over the globe dedicated to keeping us from the right to live. Not just to live freely, but to Live period. So some of us want to keep a closer watch on our borders, so we want to know who comes into our country, so we want people to learn our government and how it works and what it stands for, so we want people coming into our country to learn our language… which is something we are expected to do while visiting other countries, so what if we would like some things done to accommodate some sense of security.

This is not to say that everyone that comes into our country illegally is a bad person, or that they intend to do wrong, but that through this same process there are those people who do intend and will attempt to harm the people that are in America. A good amount, but probably not the majority, as we have no true way to monitor, are people getting away from their current governments to avoid being prosecuted for the things that they have illegally done in their own country. (I.e. murder, rape, and other illegal activity)

The world will never truly be free or equal until we all learn to respect others thoughts and beliefs and our governments learn to deal with each other without boastful egos that result in war. But until these events occur we need to do what we can to reserve the current citizens rights to live securely without giving up any of the current freedoms they have.

God bless America and those that come to live in it. Our laws are set up to provide safety for the people here and for those that will be here in the future.

Are your opinions along the same lines or do you feel differently about Immigration in America?

honestly...like 'Americans' want to become Mexican citizens or..other country..citizenz and stuff..
yah we are discriminated but like, dont' we live better dan other countries? so why should we care, we dont live under a dictatorship or something, we're not starving to deaht [like literally], everybody receives and education, everybody has an opportunity here..so y should we worry about being 'discriminated'?
i mean dazz wut i think hehehe

Based on your writing, I'm not sure you received much of an education. Either that, or you don't want to sound like you did. Either way, I can't even understand what you are saying in your posts.

I think you are right on the money. I don't think it is right to just give a whole bunch of illegal immigrants the same rights that those of us who were born here or go through the process receive. It's not fair because, most illegal immigrants don't really understand our laws, don't know about our governmnet system, except how to use it to their advantage, possibly, and don't understand, nor do many of them care to understand our culture. While I am all for immigrants keeping their culture through language, food, and celebrations, I love to learn about other cultures, why do so many immigrants (generally illegal) choose not to learn ours, when they are living in our country? It's almost insulting.

One thing that you might be overlooking though, is that the process for becoming a US Citizen is long, difficult, and expensive. What if you come from a poorer country like Mexico, and can't really raise the money? Maybe why many of them come to America illegally is that they can't afford the 5,000 per adult that it takes to file the paperwork. Maybe it is really our system that is the problem, and the government shouldn't be limiting citizenship to the middle class, but should help the poor communities out. Just a thought to consider.

well this is certainly better written than last time...but i still say it is not a good thing...the ID's...but i think that the fee is so high because of the poor constituency in our country now. With the welfare programs we have I can see how the government doesn't want any more expenses, especially to immigrants, legal or illegal. I can see it being a deterrent for those seeking legal immigration. So most just get work visas and other things like that. But makes sense if used properly. Like on felons and other criminals, especially child predators and such. But not everyone should be required to get this ID.

By not providing eveyone coming into the country with identification, we allow terrorists to run freely through our borders. There has got to be some level of security. Maybe more background check investment and reduced cost for becoming a citizen would be a good idea.

I think the more important aspect that needs to be examined is why people come here and specificially why they choose to do so illegally. The driving force for most immigrants is the search for a better economic situation. Most are entering the country because the Mexican economy is in shambles compared to that of the US and there is no lack of employment for them here as most Americans (regardless of some rhetoric) would not bring themselves to fill many labor intensive jobs for relatively low salaries. There are three ways that we could stop the flow of illegal immigrants without simply arresting them and deporting them. A. We allow prices for agriculture to rise to allow wages to rise high enough to employ citizens who would want the job (and close off free trade in the area contrary to WTO regulations. B. We can support expansion of the Mexican economy via aid to provide its citizens with the employment they are seeking in our country. C. We can allow agriculture, as the law of comparative advantage under free trade demands, to leave this country and move to places where it is more efficient and at lower cost (though this would certainly hurt a large number of US producers). I think we cannot blame immigrants for the poor situation they have put in and their quest simply to fulfill their personal American dream of achieving happiness. Instead, the US must recognize its role in helping to fix the systemic problem to curb the demand of migration and fix the situation in a positive manner.

Well said!

Unless we fix the heart of the problem first, any other action we take will, in the end, be a fruitless attempt. Most of the people coming over aren't doing so for any illegal purposes, they simply need a more viable way to support their families. Arkansas is full of illegal immigrants. Most work long hard hours and then send the majority of their checks back to Mexico. They aren't here for drugs, for terrorism, or any of the other thousands of things people suggest. We should be concerned about those in the minority (the drug smugglers, etc). But, until we fix what's really wrong, it's going to be just as useless as the entire 700 miles of fence will prove to be.

I dont believe people who come in here illegally should receive the same rights that legal citizens do.

I mean there are those immigrants that come in here to make better lives for themselves, like my family, but my parents had to actually work for 15 years as contract workers in Guam to become a legal citizens It wasnt until recently that my parents and my siblings with the exception of myself and my older sister (born in America) got their citizenship. And I believe anyone going into this country should do the same.

Let's face illegal immigrant are a drain to the U.S. economy anyway you look at it, they increase the crime rate, and they overpopulate our schools.
