An open letter to Ann Coulter: we don't care about you any more

I got an email from the National Jewish Democratic Council today telling me that I need to scold Ann Coulter for saying that Jews need to be "perfected" into Christians. (Read what she said on the Donny Deutsch show here.) Instead, I've decided not to scold Ann. I just want her to go away.

Dear Ms. Coulter,
For years you have polluted American media with your verbal diarrhea. At first we were outraged, then were couldn't believe that you were serious. Now, we're just sick of it. Seriously, please just go away.

Each time you put out a new book you go on some television show to hock said book and either say that the widows of 9-11 enjoyed their husbands deaths, or, this time, that all Jews should convert to Christianity. Now, as a Jewish person who grew up around people who thought that my faith was "stupid" because I don't believe that Jesus of Nazareth was anything more than a super-charasmatic Rabbi; I am used to the beliefs of some Evangelical and Catholic christians that in order for the "rapture" to come all the Jews on the planet either need to convert or die. Most Jewish people face that sort of ridicule at some point in their lives. It's not new. It's not shocking. It's ignorant, it's annoying, and it's not going to sell any of your books. (Although, you might sell more books if the cover didn't always feature your ugly ass in a cocktail dress. Seriously, put on some pants. If you're such a "good Christian" you should probably be wearing more modest clothing.)

It's getting old, Ann. Just like you. We don't care about the same old racist, sexist, reactionary lines touted by the insane right wing fringe of the Republican party. There's this thing in America called "progress", and we'd like to make some. Now, you're not even close to being powerful enough to impede that progress, but you're certainly one of the most annoying people trying to block the way.

Ann, I believe in your right to say what's really on your mind. I also believe in my right to tell you to shut up. However, it's getting to the point where it's not worth my time to actually say anything -- and yes, I realize that that statement is ironic in a letter to you. It's just that... well, I wish that you would perfect yourself. I want that for you. I believe that you can achieve that by embracing reality. Embrace that saying that all Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians is ignorant, anti-Semetic, and insulting. Of course you know it's inflamatory, and you also probably know that it's insulting. You say these things because you want attention.

Well Ann, here's some attention from a tollerant liberal Jew. Ann, I pray that you learn to keep your fool mouth shut. Better yet, I hope that you marry a man who is exactly what you want and deserve: an overbearing mysogynist who thinks that women should be seen and not heard. I'll be praying for that for you, Ann.

Now please, go away.
