After going through the posts, and tallying up the final points, and confirming the winners, we now have our Fall 2007 scholarship winners!
The scholarship winners are...
Truelife90 ($1000 scholarship)
engkatiemarie ($500 scholarship)
lancekates ($500 scholarship)
Truelife90 may not seem to have made much impression, but her read count launched her far above her competition.
Engkatiemarie is new to ProU this contest, proving that you don't have to earn your basis before you win the contest. She made quite a comeback in terms of points throughout the semester; she jumped from low in the top 10 to the coveted scholarship position in a matter of weeks.
Lancekates is also new to ProU. You may remember him from the gun control series he did, as well as the Bill of Rights series he's currently doing. Conservative to the core, you'll either agree with him or disagree with him. But he puts up a good fight either way.
Of course, we can't make a scholarship announcement without announcing a few honorable mentions as well. So, we'd like to extend a congratulations to...
...SLS, for most improvement throughout the semester. She started blogging about TV shows, and slowly made her way to blogging about progressive issues.
...Samus, for being quickly noticed. Samus was nominated to be a featured blogger only a day after his registration on the site. That takes some sort of talent.
...alenka, for endlessly trying to win the scholarship. She wavered through the top 10 a great deal, but in the end, didn't quite make the cutoff.
...Truebeliever, for being one of the most controversial members on the site, inciting arguments wherever he goes.
...the entire ProU conservative population. You get jabbed again and again for your views, and still stick around. We appreciate it.
And while she isn't eligible for an honorable mention (for not being eligible for the scholarship), we'd like to point out Fallon. As a director of the site, she was unable to accumulate points through blogging or commenting. However, we added up read points for every member of the site, and Fallon launched from near the end of the list to in the top 10. For her read count ALONE. That just goes to show you how important those read points are. (The rest of us moderators contend that we weren't up there merely because we didn't blog as much as we did in past contests).
Congratulations once again to everyone. Lets make the next contest even better.
EDIT: And people, since you keep hounding certain people about why you didn't win, and to prevent anyone else from doing it, allow me to make a few things clear. First of all, 15000 read points on your blog probably isn't accurate. The reads displayed at the bottom of your blog are not unique reads. Notice that if you refresh over and over and over, you'll inflate your read count. Only the first is counted in the database. Secondly, the top person, truelife90, had nearly 50,000 points. Most people (the VAST majority) had under 30,000 points. We didn't make a mistake, I assure you.

Thehehehe....perhaps. Naw just kidding, Nick has that job all wrapped up.

Well I mean if your parents are rich and you are already going to have your college paid for then I wouldn't understand that person wanting scholarships
What is more fun than winning $1000 and, well, taking away the opportunity from those less fortunate than yourself?
