This blog was prompted by listening to the radio. Yes, something as simple as that.
Recently, in the past few months or so, I have been noticing more and more that all of the radio stations are switching to "high definition" radio. This goes along with everyone HAVING to have a "high definition" tv.
Starting with the radio.
I have noticed on most stations that since they have switched to "high definition" radio, the quality is not better, -it is actually kind of messed up. I will be listening to a song and right in the middle it will pause for a minute before picking up 10 or 15 seconds later right where it left off. The first few times I noticed this I thought it was just problems at the radio station, signal-transmission problems, maybe somebody bumped something. But then I started to notice it more and more, and on almost every station-not just a few. Now, I cannot be 100% certain that it is because of "high definition" radio, but what else could it be? I ONLY notice it on stations that have switched, and it has only started happening since the stations have switched.
And high definition tv. I don't get it. My aunt got an HD plasma flat screen tv. Dad said he thought the picture was amazing-I didn't notice a difference-but at the same time I'm not one to talk on that exact one because I wasn't paying attention to the tv when I was there. So perhaps it is a better picture. But why does a better picture mean a worse picture for the people that can't afford a brand new special blah blah blah hd tv? I mean really, I can say-I believe our picture quality has gone down over the years.
So let's get to my main point. Other than the fact that the radio now sucks, and the fact that the tv's aren't very productive for older users, money. I believe the entire "hd" age is made purely for money. They tell you that you HAVE to have an HD tv, why? So they can get the money of course. They have been saying for years now "in 5 years EVERYONE will have to have an hd tv, normal tv's won't work anymore." But that is one of those things-"You said 10 minutes 10 minutes ago!" They keep saying it, yet where are we today? We still have a normal tv in this house. 5 of them to be exact. They tell you that in "this amount of years" you will have to have an hd tv so you will fear your tv won't work-you go out and buy a new hd tv, they get the money their happy. Makes sense.
I don't really care about the tv's, it is the radio that bugs me. Why does the radio need to be high definition? The only difference I notice is the skipping. It is really annoying.

That is really all it is. It's just for money. And as far as in so many years everyone will have to have it, that will never happen. Majority of families can't afford new tvs. And with that being said they wouldn't change it because their ratings would go down due to not everybody will have an HD tv.
Definately true. The companies can't afford everyone to have it-because everyone won't.
High Definition is a perfect example of American Capitalism. There is no HUGE difference in sound or picture, but if people can afford it, they throw out the money anyway.
most definately true
After watching HD channels, "regular" channels look grainy and distorted, not to mention the sharpness of color and whatnot... also, with HD radio, you have to have an HD reciever to get the additional content the stations offer, the sound isn't better its just more content from your favorite stations...but I love my HD TV, 'specially Discovery Channel HD, I could watch shows about aquatic animals in HD all day!
Why though? What makes it so important that we should all run out and buy brand new things, when our old ones still work?
