Yes, I am doing a blog on something that someone else just did but I felt that I needed to dig deeper and perhaps share a part of my life with you. Thanks goes out for the idea, though! Anyways, My mom got pregnant at sixteen and had me at seventeen. Her life is ruined because of it. She had no opportunity. She did not even graduate high school because of it. Now I am not saying that she could not have graduated high school she just didn't. Some refer to babies that were concieved at a young age as mistakes. Well, I am not the mistake! SHE made the mistake. Ok, say that you got pregnant at an early age and you wanted to finish high school and then go to college and become a doctor. Well, unless you have a very gracious parent that will watch your baby for most of the day while you go to school and study or you have an aweful lot of money for overtime daycare, then that dream has just flown out the window. My mom, because of HER mistake now lives in a crappy old trailor and sometimes she even goes hungry. She has to feed my eight year old brother before she feeds herself. And it probably does'nt help that she spends quite a bit of money on marjuana and beer. She uses drugs and alcohol to block out the feeling of HER mistake. Anyways, I just thought that I would say that abortion is not the answer! It would be better to give that child a chance even if you gave it up for adoption. If you make a mistake then you learn from your mistake. But you shouldn't take it out on the child. I am very glad that I was given a chance at life!

No, it hasn't. I had my daughter before I graduated high school. My parents were deadbeats so I lived on my own, and I worked 3 jobs during my pregnancy on top of 15 hrs. of college classes and high school just so I could eat crappy food and pay tuition. I never went hungry, but I didn't live gloriously for that period of time, either. My dream never flew out of any window, and neither did my motivation. As soon as I graduated high school, I was able to apply for and recieve scholarships. At one point, I took student loans as well and was able to support both myself and my daughter comfortably as well as pay for daycare. I chose to make minor sacrifices for 8 months in order to claim my opportunity to go to college. I'm now working towards my PhD and may attend medical school, and doing quite well. Your mother didn't live in a trailer and do drugs because she made a mistake or didn't have opportunities. She had an opportunity to work hard for a mere 4 years of her life and go to college just like every other American (and many resident noncitizens) instead of purchasing drugs and alcohol. She did not fail to succeed in life because of lack of opportunity or responsibility for a child, she failed to succeed in life because she chose not to. That choice, not you, was the mistake. We are lucky enough to live in a country that allows everyone, including women, to get a job, student loans, grants, and heck- even free food! I could have dropped a job or two (and did after my daughter was born) and recieved food stamps instead or busting my ass to eat spaghetti all the time because I was born into the opportunity to do so. Parents of all ages go to college, and the issues of childcare, finances, etc. are there no matter what age the student is.
Another thing: It's never too late to go to college. Your mother could still seize the opportunity if she wanted to. As for the abortion part, I'm pro choice there.
Cheers

You made the right decision but there are few people that have the will to do all of that work!
