Here's a question for you: Why do some women go to such great lengths to look good in what they wear--even if it hurts?
Not to long ago, my sister showed me one of her downright disgusting bunions on the left of her foot. If you don't know what bunions are they're just bumps that grow most commonly on the side of your big toe and rarely grow at the side of your left toe. You could say you were kind of growing like a sixth toe. Gross? Very. Bunions can appear so little in the beginning, however, shoes that crowd the toes makes it a WHOLE lot worse. Crowding the toes will only make it bigger and painful. This is where my sister comes in.
In the business world, women usually wear sophisticated and business-like clothing. You've got the hair styled, a black blazer, a matching skirt, and then you have -- the high heels. My sister who dresses something like this also wears high heels. Sometimes, it is not just for looks, but for height. For someone twice - no, three times as old as me, who is much smaller compared to me, I can understand why she would wear high heels. But the sad part about wearing shoes like high heels, increases the size of her bunion. If this goes on, she may have to get rid of the bunion through surgery.
While surfing the site, I did a little research on bunions. It just so happened that my sister's idol, Victoria Beckham, had a bunion just like her. What a small world! On google images, there was a picture of her with flat sandals and a bunion popping at the side of her foot. Not a pretty sight. Most likely, heels she's worn during her past with the Spice Girls had come to haunt her feet. What can you say? It's all about fashion and trends. The good news is that she later decided to get rid of her bunions through surgery after learning that bunions can cause a person never walk again.
Why am I randomly talking about bunions? Well, it is purely out of curiosity and concern that people can sometimes forget that taking care of oneself should be more important and top priority over everything even if it's fashion. Why make yourself go through such pain just to look good or look presentable? AT LEAST look presentable AND comfortable. Somtimes I ask myself why I go through the same thing as well. Haven't you heard? Fashion hurts. No pain, no game.

Another question for another day!

If you wear shoes that fit your foot, you usually don't have a problem.
If she's the type who buys shoes that are not designed for the shape of her foot (like so many women I see who don't even care to try shoes on), then she can't blame the shoes for the bunions: she has to blame herself.
I wear heels all the time. If they get uncomfortable halfway through the day, I change them. But generally, I only buy shoes that fit and that are shaped right for my foot, and I don't have any problems.

I agree. If they are wide enough and long enough, it's not a problem. She's probably buying them too small. I wear high heels on a daily basis with the exception of summertime and have never had this kind of problem.
