Invisible Children

I have been sitting through my humanities seminar and we have been discussing the Invisible Children of northern Uganda. I want for everyone who reads this to visit the Invisible Children Website and take a look around.

The story is really tragic. The children of Uganda fear for their lives so they must travel great distances every night to avoid being captured by the rebel army. The rebel army will do one of two things; kill the kids or brainwash them and make them child soldiers. Sadly these children have no other place to turn than to walk to the city for protection.

It's an amazing cause and I hope everyone will take a look at it and try to do something to help. It's worth buying the video and/or sponsoring a child. We need to do what we can to help the global community with humanitarian issues, especially with children and young adults.

I am very surprised by the information that you have presented us. I can't believe that this is going on. It just goes to show that there is alot of stuff that we dont know much about.

It's nice to see that you are so into this. We need some more people to take action. I don't have the money to support a child, but I very well might buy a video.

yeah, this is one of the saddest things i have ever heard. it breaks my heart to know that stuff like this goes on in our world. it is so important for people to stand up and fight for these children.

This group of people came to my college and asked us to protest with them. We walked two miles (nothing compaired to what they walk) and then slept down town in a park. While we were there we wrote letters and watched a movie about the children. I cried, wrote, letters and would do it again.

They're doing it all over again. This time harder, longer, and more real. Because the kids are being released, but have nowhere to go.

I too hope that many people will visit the IC site and be inspired. This has been a movement that has also helped my organization S.C.O.U.T. B.A.N.A.N.A. with getting more people involved. Get involved! Make a difference!

Yes chidlren all over the world face horrors beyond compare the U>S. Just think a child is kidnapped and tortured in South America every 30 minutes. Disgusting!! But, they also are some very smart children who get taught the beauties of nature, music, and life. It seems to me that with all they go through they are still less complaintant than us.....

Thank you

I have known about Invisible Chlidren for a while now and have been keeping up with whats been going on in Uganga and one thing that is actually really awesome about what is going on is that there have been talks of peace between the two groups that are fighting.

One really easy way to help is simply by writing a letter to the President asking him to encourage peace in Uganda. The Ugandan Government values U.S. opinion, so our support for peace can help speed things up exponentially.

I just thought you all would want to know.

What has happened in Uganda has been amazing. Rebel groups have actually ceased fighting, children are no longer communters, and rebuilding has begun in Northern Uganda - yet even with this great hope the rebels, at their gathering areas in Southern Sudan, say that talks have stalled and they are ready to return to Uganda. The rebels are ready to return because they are unwelcome in Sudan, but the Ugandan government forces have said they will open fire on any attempt to re-enter Uganda. The peace talks had a great hope and I hope they can continue, but right now the situation is not looking so good.

I heard about the Invisible Children thanks to an awesome band named Switchfoot. They have played benefit shows for IC. And the videos are even on youtube. So, if you guys are really interested you should check the videos out. I think IC is a great organization, and I'll be going to one of their screenings down here on Miami.

My friend just recently started a club at my school called Campaign for Action. The topic this month is Child Soldier. We watched a movie about what the children go through. It's extremely sad!!! :(

I just wanted to comment really quietly on why you choose this to write about. I think it is devistating and really upsetting but think of all the others thing going on in the workd that we can help prevent, this being One of them. It would be so great to help the invisible children, I hope they all stay invisible forever!

You know that being "invisible" is not a good thing, right?

I think s/he meant that she hopes they stay out of sight from their captors?

I first became aware of Invisible Children through myspace, and have to say that they are making such a difference.

Keep spreading awareness!

You can hate a terrorist, but you cannot hate the child. Children are the future. My local churh youth group supports Compassion Children. We give them about $32 a month. What does this buy? EVERYTHING. It is amazing how foar it goes. They get medical treatment, schooling, clothes, and better housing. They have a chance. We as Americans need to support our children, and the children of the world. We are that rich. Don't believe me? What was the last thing you purchased for $32? Was it necessary for you to live? In most cases not. You could have supported a child for a month with that money. That is how rich America is.

Invisible Children has made a huge impact on my life. I first heard about it through the National Honors Society at my high school. I've been involved with it for the past two years and there is something coming up in the next few months called Displace Me. What it is is in several major cities around the country, School for Schools (which is a branch that helps Invisible Children) will be setting up "refugee camps" in theses cities. For 24 hours you live like the way these kids and families live everday. Check it out.

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one that is aware of the problem of using children in armed combat. I found out about Invisible Children from a video clip when I was doing a final project for my current world issues class. Extremely wonderful program that is very dedicated in their work.

My blog

I;ve never heard of this before and thanks for putting it out there. I looked at the site and I'm thinking about getting involved.

It's nice that you are so involved. I found out about them on myspace. I was looking at the filmmaker section, and it showed up. I wanted to do Displace Me so bad, but had a conflict. I was devastated. But I'll volunteer with them some other time.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you sooo much for writing about these invisible children in northern uganda!!
