Mark Twain a racist. Is it True? Many people can argue whether or not his use of certain words, say for instance, the 'n' word, is meant as an insult therefore denying the book "The Adventure of Huckleberry Fin" (where Twain uses the so called 'n' word) entry to schools. The whole idea of that is ridiculous. To impress the complete understanding upon readers, authors should try to make their stories as believable and (in comparison to the story's time, place, and genre) truthful as possible. When Twain is telling the whole story, and giving the readers the whole picture by correctly depicting the characters and their lives, he's doing the right thing. He shouldn't plaster over the truth or smooth things down because they might be inaccurately interpreted. He should tell it how it is.
Now I love everyone for who they are and what they do, not by their physical appearances or their heritage. In the time period that Twain thinks back to, that's not how society is. Everyone judges everyone based on their skin color and race. The 'n' word was just a term that everyone used, so in the story, Huckleberry grows up around that atmosphere, and he can't help it if that is the only term he knows to classify african americans by. When he later chooses to go to hell rather than betray his friend, it just confirms that he isn't using the word in a cruel way, he just doesn't know any other title for his friend. So, Twan is accurate in displaying his characters and the struggles of that time period and he wasn't being racist, he was being truthful. How can one get those confused.
