So I had these two papers to write. Two papers that maybe I didn't know what I was talking about, but I had ideas. We watch two videos, "Dead Man Walking", and "Dirty Pictures". So I had some ideas. Capital punishment (mainly the death penalty) and censorship. What do you think of when you hear those words? Do you picture a monster being strapped down about to be put to death for putting someone else to death? Do you think of morbid homoerotic photos or inapropriate outbursts of speech? Why do the same people that are pro-life, pro-death penalty? Or vice-versa? So you're saying that the life of an unborn child is worth more than that of an adult, oh, excuse me, a monster? Who told you that you could be judge, jury, and executioner? But wait, didn't God say that He was the ultimate jugde? Whatever, but aren't we all also born with sin? Isn't there salvation even for that "monster"? So at the end of "Dead Man Walking" Sean Penn (the actor playing the killer) found redemption in repentence. He became more "human". But in the movie the killer made a few good pnts. For one there's not any rich men on death row. This was based on a true story so the killer was a real person. He grew up well below what our government would consider poverty level, didn't have a dad (he died) and was uneducated. Did his government, which was partially responsible for his lot in life, fail him, where he, in turn, failed society? Another thing he said was he didn't believe in killing, in him killing, or the government killing him. Isn't murder, murder? What are we to do with all of societies rejects? Or is society to blame? What's up with "no child left behind"? I think quite a bit of them are being more than "left behind", they're being forgotten, left in the gutter of their circumstances. Only to grow up to become uneducated, unloved, forgotten, unwanted....what would you call them? Oh well, what's that got to do with me right? It's got EVERYTHING to do with you! Who votes? You think your's doesn't matter? Um, think again. Listen, ignorance breeds ignorance. I may not be a genious, but I'm not blind, even one person can make a difference. Look at Mother Teresa, Gandi, Jesus. One person is definately capable of making a difference for thousands, even millions. It seems that people are unwilling to try. What's in it for me? Let me take care of "me" first. There seems to be something wrong, if we are unwilling to take measures to make those around us have fuller lives, who will do it when we need someone?
