Presidential Poll Questions
1. On October 30th , President Bush and Ugandan President Yoweri
Museveni reaffirmed US support to achieve greater economic development
under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). This is said to
open the US market with the African market to help both economies and
help establish African countries. How do you feel President Bush has
dealt with these foreign affairs?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

2. President Bush and Mexican President Calderón launched the "Merida
Initiative" to fight drug drug trafficking and other criminal
activities over the mutual border earlier this year. On October 22,
both presidents made a joint statement asking Congress to approve $500
million for the program. At the same time, Congress has been requested
to approve $50 million for bolstering Central American efforts to
fight criminals and illegal drug trafficking. How well do you feel
President Bush has chosen to use American money in fighting criminal
activity?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

3. In May, President Bush announced that he would "work with Congress
to double the US commitment to fights HIV/AIDS around the world (to
$30 billion)…and reauthorize the legislation that established the
President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)." PEPFAR would
then continue HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and care, and strengthen
health systems and create programs that address AIDS-related diseases,
as well as issues such as clean water, food and nutrition, education
and other needs. If Congress agrees to this proposition, the American
people will have committed $48.3 billion over ten years to fight
HIV/AIDS. The US contribution is already the largest international
health initiative dedicated to a specific disease (according to
www.usinfo.state.gov ). How well do you think President Bush has
allocated American money according to this cause?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

4. 4. President Bush is involved in the helping of prosecuted
nations, such as in the Middle East and Africa, asking for a
democratic government. Do you feel he has done an adequate amount of
work in helping worldwide persecution of a person's natural rights
outlined in the Bill of Rights?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

5. After being involved in the Iraq War for over 6 years, with
thousands of American casualties but also liberating Iraqi citizens
from a dictatorship, President Bush is opposing a Democratic bill that
outlines troop withdrawal from Iraq. This bill would begin troop
withdrawals within 30 days of passing and would have all American
soldiers out of combat by December 2008. How would you rate President
Bush's decision to continue pursuing peace at any cost?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

6. In October, President Bush vetoed many forms of a Democratic
children's health bill. The bill would offer federal health care for
most middle class families, but asks for $35 billion to expand the
program over the next 5 years. President Bush responded with an offer
of $5 billion to expand the program but felt that the bill was leading
to a completely federally-run insurance program. How would you rate
President Bush's decision to veto this bill?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

7. In the last two months, President Bush nominated Michael Mukasey
for the position of Attorney General. In the confirmation process, the
Senate questioned his policies along many controversial issues,
including waterboarding. Waterboarding is used during interrogation of
prisoners and simulates drowning. Mukasey told senators that while he
found the practice personally "repugnant," he could not answer
"hypothetical" questions about whether the technique violates a U.S.
ban on the use of torture. What do you think of President Bush's
encouragement to Congress to confirm his choice even if they were
unsure of Mukasey's beliefs and whether they were best for the
country?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

8. In the last few weeks, President Bush has demanded that Congress
sends him legislation that deals with the "alternative minimum tax".
The alternative minimum tax is a tax that is paid by anyone whose
average yearly income is over $75,000. It was originally intended to
tax the rich who were able to avoid taxes by charitable donations and
other tax deductions, however it does not adjust for inflation and now
is paid by millions of middle class Americans. President Bush also
stated in his weekly radio address that he will veto any bill that
tries to fix that tax by creating another tax. How do you feel
President Bush has dealt with this tax issue?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

9. On November 9th , President Bush commented on the "measurable
results" in international talk with North Korea to persuade them to
dismantle their nuclear weapons. He says that plutonium-production
facilities at Yongbyon, North Korea's main nuclear complex, "are now
being disabled under six-party supervision." North Korea has been
promised that they will be removed from a terrorism blacklist (meaning
that countries will not trade or be involved with them while they are
accused of terrorism), but they still have abducted Japanese citizens.
What do you think of the President's promise to removed North Korea
from the blacklist even if they haven't completely complied with the
terms for removal?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

10. Earlier in October, President Bush prodded Congress to reauthorize
his No Child Left Behind Act. This act has mandated yearly
standardized testing across America to gauge the success of public
schools. Schools are required to have a majority of students pass the
tests or are faced with cut funding or other punishments. Its platform
is that every student must learn to read, write, and do math, and is
trying to equalize the level of education taught across the country.
How do you feel the President has dealt with this part of his domestic
agenda?
Poor
Fair
Average
Good
Very Good

How many people do you honestly think can make an informed affirmation about any of these topics, much less all of them?

its a government project. to rate how people think Bush has done recently. perhaps no one is really "informed" about the stuff he does... but they should. right? i mean. if they dont know what the president is doing - then we're screwed as a nation. that would suck. shouldn't we have views in regards to even the smallest issues?

1. 1 (Neoliberalism bastardizes capitalism and ensures corruption. Watch Uganda go deeper into debt with a more tyrannical government in the next 5 years.)
2. 1 (Drug was is a waste of money)
3. 1 (Why can't private funds and charities take care of this. The money comes out of our tax dollars anyway)
4. 1 (Representative democracy is inherently corrupt, oppressive, and inefficient)
5. 1 (Peace does not come from government)
6. 5 (The more services the government provides, the more they can stop you from doing certain things)
7. 3 (Moot point. If he nominated the guy, he's going to support him.)
8. 1 (Fuck income tax. We didn't have it until 1890, and we've been all the worse for it since)
9. 5 (If we endorse nukes for India who actually has someone to use them on, I don't see why we shouldn't allow DRNK to have them)
10. 1 (No federal government in public schools. Also a recent phenomenon that has made the country suffer.)
