How easy is it to register to vote? So easy a dog could do it?
Jane Balogh registered her dog, Duncan, to vote by putting her phone bill in the dog's name. She registered the dog as a protest against lax voting laws. Balogh was fined, even though officals did not take her to trial over the matter.
My dog gets mail sometimes from solicitors, but I'm not sure how you get a phone bill put into your dog's name.
Balogh's major concern was that non-citizens would be able to vote too easily. Considering that her dog was registered and ended up recieving ballots, I think she has a point.
This raises some interesting questions. Should you be able to vote just because you live in the US, even if you are not a citizen? Who should be able to vote? What measures should we take to postively identify voters as citizens?
How often do non-citizens already vote? Even if they do, how much does that change the outcome of elections?

I think only people with valid US citizenship should be allowed to vote. We can't exactly go into most other countries and vote in their elections so why should someone be able to do it here?
I would say there should be a process to sign up to vote to make sure you are a citizen and all, but a lengthy process may deter some of the lazier people from registering and exercising their right at all.
probably wouldn't want to be troubled more. Some people might not like the idea of having to present more information, just because they feel it would be an invasion of privacy. But if a dog can vote . . . we probably do need to take the hit on the lazies and paranoids and make things a little more difficult.
Its important that only citizens vote. Its the citizens that pay taxes and have to deal with the outcomes of elections. I think the process is just a little too easy right now. We need it to be more secure without making it too hard so we dont alienate voters.
