Enough is enough

Why must we, on a Hallmark holiday of love, commit an act of hate? The Northern Illinois University shooting should not have occurred. Simple as that. Acts of crime have a root and that root is usually a lack of love. So the cruel irony is that such an act of hate was done on a day of love. But what can we do about it? I say stricter gun laws. I'm all for making sure that there is complete and total background check done on each and every person before they are allowed to purchase a gun. Think of the benefits, for they truly outweigh the negative factors of such a plan. This plan will cause a need for a lot more positions on the local, state and federal branches. This will definitely help bring down the unemployment rate that this country is plagued by. It will also prolong the time people will be able to purchase a gun. Why do we need guns? I understand hunters and officers of the law but why does every random Joe need to be able to carry a concealed gun where ever he goes? It sets my nerves on edge knowing that at any point in time a gun could be pulled out in any setting and there are truly no ways stopping that. Now here lays the problem, how can we have a strict gun control policy without stepping all over our second amendment rights? Here's the thing, the Bill of Rights and the Amendments are living documents basically meaning that they were created to grow with the people. As little children are punish when continually do something wrong, I feel as though we need a time out. In the past week there have been four public shootings. When is enough, enough America? When are we finally going to realize that what we are doing, the laws we are making are ineffective? We need to have some sort of responsibility to our loved ones not to let this happen again so easily because I cannot imagine for the life of me having someone knock on my door telling me that my brother was killed in a public shooting. Can you and do you even want to?

If you have never heard of the stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard, it's time to check him out. He has this great bit on the gun regulations of America. The excuse for it being so easy to get hold of a gun tends to be "Guns don't kill people... people kill people."

Eddie's response to that? "I think the gun helps..."
