162 games, 8 months, boiling down to one 3 hour, nine inning segment

The baseball regular season is coming to an end; in fact it already did last Monday for all but two teams. After two months of spring training, 162 games, and about 18 of those games being played between these two teams; the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins are tied for first place in their division.
Can you believe that? After all that time these two teams are tied. On Tuesday they will play a final head-to-head game to decide not only who wins the division, but who will go to the playoffs.

Mind you these guys LIVE for baseball. This is their passion, as well as mine, and making the playoffs is an accomplishment that many players have never achieved. Besides winning the World Series, making the playoffs is one of the most amazing feelings in the game. It shows that those 8 months of training and playing games, all that time on the bus, in a hotel, and away from their families turned out to be a success. Now just imagine a team missing the playoffs by one, single game. After 162 games, probably 20% were either one or lost by a single run, one of those could be the decider for that entire 8 month period. One diving catch, one more clutch hit, one more strikeout, may decide whether all that time was a waste, or a success that could lead to the ultimate success; the world series.
Just imagine the pressure going into this game. Some players will cave under it, while other will rise above it and make all this time worthwhile. It’s the ultimate test of focus, endurance, and will power. Could you rise above it? How would you react in a similar situation?
